The Duxbury girls’ lacrosse team appears to be peaking at just the right time, as they demolished Atlantic Coast League entrant and No. 8 seed Nauset High School, 15-5, on Thursday afternoon in Duxbury.

The Warriors stayed close for the first 10 minutes thanks to the goaltending of senior Libby Hart, who made several outstanding saves to keep the game from becoming an early rout. Sophomore Katie Smith was the first Lady Dragon to score four minutes into the game, and she was followed by junior Hannah Murphy who completed a great transition run after a Sophie Fitzpatrick save to make it 2-0 at the 17:32 mark.

Junior Tina Balzotti would score consecutive goals 35 seconds apart with 15:06 to go in the half, triggering a Duxbury offensive assault that resulted in a 13-1 halftime lead leaving Hart shell shocked.

Coach Kelly Jurgens went to her bench midway through the first half and throughout the second half, inserting a slew of backups and underclassmen that included senior Kelton Vuilleumier and freshman Charlotte Wahle in net.

The offense was spread all over the roster and included goals by Katie Smith (3), Murphy (2), Balzotti (3), Molly Zaverucha, Meg Zaverucha, Lily Smith, Emily Giumetti, Lily Connolly, and Emily Horton (2).

The win sets up a confrontation with No. 4 seed Medfield (15-5) on Tuesday afternoon in Duxbury at 5 p.m. Medfield defeated #5 seed Norwell over the weekend, 14-10.
