For 25 years Coach Jack Stoddard has been bringing his passion for the game of golf to the student-athletes of Duxbury High School. His golf programs have earned seven State titles and a combined 21 league championships. Since becoming the girls’ varsity golf coach four years ago, the program has doubled in size. Assistant Coach John Blake cites Stoddard’s dedication. “Jack has a passion for the game of golf that reflects the way his team prepares and plays on a yearly basis. He goes above and beyond the call of duty as a coach with the time and effort he puts into the team. Jack will often stay after practice and work one-on-one with a player who is struggling with his or her swing.”Stoddard offers service to the community of Duxbury as a teacher at the middle school and is also a high school basketball official. In the past, he served as a youth baseball and basketball coach. His teams have raised money to combat diabetes, and his athletes take part in cleanup days at their Duxbury Yacht Club home course. According to Athletic Director Thom Holdgate, “Coach Stoddard’s success on the course, as well as his success in building better people, speaks volumes of him as a person and as a tremendous piece of our athletic department.” |
