Doyle wins Division III title
By Mike Halloran
Wednesday, February 22, 2012 09:00 AM

Duxbury High School senior Emily Doyle has become the first female in school history to win an indoor State track title when she won the 300m at the Division III track championships on Friday afternoon at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

The Colby College-bound runner ran a :41.62 to beat out Patriot League foe Kaitlyn Elinoff of Hingham for the second time in two weeks, having previously defeated her at the Patriot League championships with a personal-best time of :41.15. A four-year varsity runner and three-time Patriot League All-Star, Doyle is the daughter of Mary and Brad Doyle, both of whom were track athletes at Duxbury HS in the class of 1981.

Doyle started running when she was a member of the Duxbury Iron girls back in her middle school days. When she reached high school she decided she needed to do something in between the soccer and lacrosse seasons and track made sense.

Doyle started to show she had the ability to be a top runner when she became a member of the school’s 4 x 400 relay team as a sophomore. Last year she proved that to be the case when she finished second in the 300m at the 2011 Division III championships.

Midway through her senior season Doyle could see it all starting to come together, as she breezed through the Patriot League schedule and continued to out-duel Elinoff when the two went head-to-head.

Doyle was quick to praise track Coaches Harry Taylor and Tim McLeod for aiding in her development, along with Duxbury strength and conditioning Coach Rob Ferrara.

Currently ranked sixth for this weekend’s All-State championships, Doyle will need a super-human effort if she plans on taking the title away from Arlington’s Rebecca Robinson, who recently ran the 300m in :39.
