WATD held its annual football banquet on Jan. 8 at the Radison in Plymouth and the Super Bowl champion Duxbury Dragons were honored with several awards. Former Durfee HS and Boston College star Chris Herren gave the keynote address about his well-chronicled life of addiction and basketball, while WATD sports director and Duxbury resident Bill Wilhelm honored many players and others for their achievements on the field and in the community. Three people were honored as Sports Persons of the Year and they included Herren, Duxbury HS football Coach Dave Maimaron and Hull HS girls’ basketball coach Liz Londregan. Duxbury swept the Player of The Year honors with Max Randall and Matt O’Keefe sharing the top award, while James Burke, Don Webber, and Reilly Naton received Distinguished Player honors. Wilhelm presented Community Service Awards to Duxbury’s Steve Bowen and Marshfield’s Steve Waisgerber for their involvement in this year’s Pan-Mass Challenge. Bowen raised over $1,000,000 for the Pan-Mass cause, while Waisgerber, a Marshfield HS assistant basketball coach and cancer survivor himself, raced in his 22nd Pan-Mass Challenge. |
