Boys' swim team wins over Hingham
By Denise Buckley, Clipper Contributor
Wednesday, January 18, 2012 09:20 AM

The Duxbury boys’ swimming and diving team spent its last home meet of the season enjoying a win over Hingham. The Dragons won all but two events, making plenty of Division II State cuts in the process. Juniors Mike Connolly and Stephen Tonaszuck led the team with two wins apiece, also swimming season-best times in the process.

After the 200-yard medley team of Ian Wilson, co-captain Arthur Su, Tonaszuck and Connolly took first, Connolly would return to the pool to touch first in the 200-yd. freestyle.  He dominated the race, swimming a season-low State cut time of 1:52.88, finishing a pool length ahead of his competition. Joining him were Matt Griffin (2nd) and Coleman Brady (4th). In the 100-yd. freestyle, Connolly would swim his best time of the season (51:43), out-touching Su (2nd) and Stephen Kravitz (4th). Tonaszuck conquered the shortest and longest events: the 50 and 500-yard freestyle. His time of 25.33 in the 50 was the fastest ahead of Griffin (2nd) and Drew Lawrence (4th), while his season-low 5:13.82 in the 500 was a Division II State-qualifying time. Keelan Murphy (3rd) and Noah Brayer (4th) would also score points in the endurance event.

The 200-yard IM was all Wilson’s, as he cruised to first place ahead of Malcolm Edgar, who took third. Wilson also competed in the 100-yd. backstroke to take second, competing alongside Brayer (4th) and John Coakley (5th).

The Dragons swept the 100-yd. breaststroke with Su (1:09.71) gliding his way to the wall first, finishing just ahead of Kravitz (2nd) and Kevin Coakley (3rd).  The 100-yd. butterfly saw Josh Ng and co-captain Ben Zelvis battle it out for second place, with Ng out-touching Zelvis by 1/10 of a second. Kevin Coakley took 4th.

Mike Tougas was the only male diver competing against Hingham.  He took second place with a score of 133.87.

The Dragons have the week off before heading to Middleboro next Tuesday.
