Tryouts for the Kingfish swim team will be held on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 4 p.m. at the Kingsbury Club in Kingston. The tryout is for children ages 7-18 for the short course season, which is tentatively scheduled to begin Sept. 8-9. Children need to know all four basic strokes (freestyle, backstroke, sidestroke and breaststroke) and be able to swim a lap of the pool (25 yards). You do not need to be a member of the Kingsbury Club to try out for or participate on this team. For more information, go to kingfishswimming.com or call Coach Jay Craft at 781-871-7287. Recently, the Kingfish team took third in the South Shore Swim League Championships held on Aug. 14 at the Kingsbury Club. Teams from all over the South Shore participated in the event. Several Kingfish members representing Duxbury finished in the top three. In the eight-and-under division, Lissie Coghlan finished second in the 25-yard backstroke and third in the 25-yard butterfly. Mary Buckley was first in the 10-and-under breaststroke. In the 12-and-under division, Max Glattstein finished second in the 50-yard breaststroke, Mary O’Sullivan took second in the 50-yard backstroke, and Emily Nichols was first in the 50-yard breaststroke. Stephen Tonaszuck placed first in the 50-yard butterfly and second in the 50-yard freestyle in the 14-and-under division. In the 17-and-under division, Avery Riddle placed first in the 50-yard backstroke and third in the 50-yard freestyle. Additional Duxbury swimmers placing in the top 10 in individual and relay events include: Olivia Zelvis, Hannah Riddle, Lily Venturelli, Mary Tonaszuk, Carolyn Johnson, Micheal O’Neal, Kevin Coghlan, Kassie Sweeney, Laura Husted, Aly Wolff, Ian Wilson, Miranda Van Dingstee, Sarah Lillys, Peter Lillys, Sabrina Linsky, Annie Sweeney, Tori Coyman, Jill Coghlan, Leah Wolff, Sophie Gino, Caroline Robinson, Cari Librett, Lexi Leclerc, Meredith Van Dingstee, Patrick O’ Donnell, Ruby Venturelli, Olivia Siroonian, Elizabeth Buckley, Allie Coleman, Brooke Stuhr, Mary Tonaszuck, Martha Fantom, and Aaden Fantom. Kingfish Swimming offers swimmers an opportunity to compete on a United States Swim team and be challenged to a new level. Headed by Jay Craft, former Olympic Trials swimmer and NCAA Division 1 All-American, the USS team provides all levels of swimming, from dual meets and state competitions to the United States Olympic Trials. Craft and his expert staff provide opportunities for swimmers at all levels to train and compete year-round. Participants travel to large meets and compete throughout New England. |
