| Reader's view: Name the new school after Lt. Steele |

I would like to take this opportunity to recall a Letter to the Editor that appeared in the Duxbury Clipper in September of 2011. The author, Dino Colucci eloquently focused our attention on the valiant life of Lt. Timothy Steele. Mr. Colucci went on to ask the people of Duxbury to consider paying tribute to Lt. Steele’s memory by naming the new school after him. In recent months, the story of Lt. Steele has slowly receded from the headlines. In order to ensure that this true American hero is at the very least placed within the pantheon of local history, I would like to publicly propose a referendum in an upcoming election, dedicating the new school in Lt. Steele’s name. By doing so, perhaps future generations of Duxbury’s young people will be able to read the name of Lt. Timothy Steele upon the façade of the building and in some small way begin to appreciate and understand the value of service to one’s community and nation. I, for one, feel as though it would be a lasting tribute to a man and his family that paid the ultimate sacrifice. His very life should serve as an inspiration to all of us.
