Gertrude R. Briggs, known to her friends as Robin, wife of the late attorney Robert M. Briggs of Plymouth, died on Feb. 2 at Rogerson House in Jamaica Plain. She was 94 and had been in declining health for some years. Born in 1917 in Mount Vernon, N.Y., as the eighth of ten children of Reverend and Mrs. Peter Roberts. Mrs. Briggs grew up near New York City and attended Oberlin College in Ohio where she studied early childhood education. She met her future husband on a summer visit to Manomet and they married in January of 1941. Living in Plymouth, she and her husband raised three children. She served as a tutor in the Plymouth Public Schools and did volunteer work through Jordan Hospital and the Church of the Pilgrimage. She thoroughly enjoyed her family, her hobbies and her friends in and about Plymouth. Mrs. Briggs leaves her children, Peter Briggs of Merion, Penn., Nancy Briggs Tooke of Boston, and William Briggs of Bonita Springs, Fla.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 17 at the Church of the Pilgrimage at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Jordan Hospital, 275 Sandwich St, Plymouth, MA 02360 or to the Church of the Pilgrimage, 8 Town Square, Plymouth, MA 02360. |
