A crowd of people came out last week to see the 2012 Duxbury Art Association’s Winter Juried show at the Art Complex Museum. One of the most prestigious shows on the South Shore, the DAA had over 400 entries with only 100 pieces featured. First time entrant Margaret Curran of Duxbury stands before her series, “Dory Trilogy,” with her childhood friend Laura there to celebrate her night.

The Duxbury Farmers and Artisans Regional Market enters its fourth year with a new president.  Erin Carpenter is one of the founders of the market and is co-owner of White Gate Farm on Union Bridge Road where she raises chickens, vegetables and flowers, and where various types of farming have taken place since the mid-1800s.  One of Erin’s main goals this year is to increase community awareness and involvement in the market. Emmeline Endresen, Ashleigh Hogan, Helena Jensen, Lauren Oliver and Eric Seewald  were awarded first honors (A- or better in all subjects) and Colin Nardi received second honors (B+ or better in all subjects) at Derby Academy for the first semester.

Sally Jernigan-Smith, a member of the class of 2015 at Skidmore College, earned term honors for the fall semester. She is the daughter of Brad Smith and Bonnie Jernigan.

Devan Virginia Bahr, majoring in communication studies and Lauren Elizabeth Grady majoring in English, have been named to the dean’s list at Clemson University for the fall semester.

The following Duxbury students have been named to the honor roll at Thayer Academy Upper School for the fall semester:  Lauren Baker, Felicia Craffey,  William Curley, Caroline Finnegan (term High Honors), Abigail Hogan (term and semester High Honors), Matthew Quinlisk, Sydney Rice, Madeline Shields and Ralph Tedeschi.

Tammy Murphy was named to Graceland University’s President’s List.  Only students with a perfect 4.0 GPA are named to the Lamoni, Iowa university’s president’s list.

Berklee College of Music announced that Kate Cameron has earned placement on the dean’s list for the fall semester of the 2011 academic year.

Lisa Badeau has been appointed to lead Accenture’s interactive’s insight and strategy capability for marketing analytics.

The University of Connecticut has named senior Jamie Morris to the dean’s list for the fall semester. Jamie is the son of Stephen and Chris Morris of Cordwood Path.

Virginia E. Buckley, Julie L. Cronin, Amanda L. Hunter and Briana L. Murphy were named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Bridgewater State University.

Candida Brush, Professor of Entrepreneurship and Director of the Arthur M. Blank Center for Entrepreneurship at Babson College, recently attended the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.  Prof. Brush participated in several sessions and presented results of a new research study entitled “The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Women’s Report” as part of a session on the Diversity Challenge.   The report examined rates and attitudes of women’s entrepreneurship in 59 economies,  found that 104 million were women starting businesses and approximately 83 million had established firms.

Krysta Wirkala, a senior at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, is listed on the honor roll. To be listed on the SMU honor roll, students must be in the top 15 percent of their school of record.

Mariah MacFarlane, a junior musical theatre major and Rita Thompson, a senior theatre studies acting major at Emerson College, were selected to perform in X Dance, Emerson’s dance concert.

Juliette Clinton, daughter of Denece Clinton, graduated with a major in biology from Ithaca College’s School of Humanities and Sciences. The degree was awarded in December 2011.

Carl Cote, a sophomore entrepreneurship major, and Kayla MacLeod, a junior management major were both named to the dean’s list at Bryant University for the fall semester.

Elwin McCarthy, Jr., a senior at Nichols College, has been named captain of the lacrosse team for the second year in a row. His first game is March 3.

Clay Nicolau has been named to the President’s list at Plymouth State University for the fall semester.

Duxbury resident Deb Bowen was recognized for her community service with an award for exemplary service presented by the Plymouth County GOP. Bowen was recognized for her ability to organize and gather people to unite in a cause and was instrumental in getting Duxbury’s Student Union up and running. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra.
