The Board of Selectmen has voted 2-1 not to support changing the date of the annual town meeting from March to May.

There will be a Celebration of Life ceremony for John F Puopolo Jr at the First Parish Church on Rt 3A in Duxbury on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at 3:00 pm.

With frigid temperatures blanketing the South Shore, the fishing season seems far off. One Duxbury native, however, is jumping feet first into shell fishing off the coast of Africa this January. 

Traveling throughout Africa is often on the bucket lists of college graduates who would also enjoy the opportunity to teach in third world countries. For Carly Spoor, a dream to do both became a reality mere months after graduation.

Two town administrators in neighboring towns have been named as finalists to become Duxbury’s next town manager. The town manager search committee announced the names Monday night at the selectmen’s meeting. The finalists are Norwell Town Administrator James Boudreau and Hanson Town Administrator Rene Read.

The Hall’s Corner convenience store on Chestnut Street is seeking to be the fourth store in the area to sell alcohol.

The repairs to the Powder Point Bridge have gotten a slower start than town officials hoped but they should be progressing soon.

Duxbury selectmen have backed all the Community Preservation Act articles that will appear on the March 9 town meeting warrant. Selectmen discussed and voted to support all eight warrant articles brought forward by the Community Preservation Committee.

In light of the recent problems that continue to arise at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant, residents and local officials are turning an eye toward possible contamination of the area’s ground water.

Duxbury town officials, police officers and residents welcomed the town’s first permanent deputy police chief at the official swearing in on Friday, Jan. 18 at the Senior Center.

Residents at the March annual Town Meeting will be asked to approve $80,000 for the town’s share of dredging Duxbury Harbor. On Monday, selectmen voted unanimously to recommend approval to spend these funds, which will come from the free cash account.

The Board of Selectmen is supporting a plan to spend $18,000 to install a monitor to measure radiation in the air from an emission from the Pilgrim nuclear power plant in Plymouth.
