Co-Chair of the Duxbury 375th Anniversary Committee, Anne Antonellis has been one busy woman this past year. As the celebrations came to a close last week, The Clipper chatted with Anne as she reflected on her time with the Committee and love for our town and its rich history and culture.

THE HOUSE AND SENATE. There were no roll calls in the House or Senate last week. The 2011-2012 legislative session is winding down and ends in early January. This week, Beacon Hill Roll Call continues a series of reports highlighting legislation approved by the House and the Senate and signed into law by Gov. Deval Patrick in the 2011-2012 session.

She's our hero of the year. Duxbury's youth have rallied around local hero Razia Jan over the last few months, learning about her efforts to provide education to young girls in Afghanistan, the dangers, challenges, and social implications changing the landscape for the future for women there. At DSU kids have been voting daily to help her win the $250,000 award to further her school.

School Committee pushes for later town meeting date to allow for more accurate budgeting |

The recreation department is requesting Community Preservation Act funding to create more fields on land adjacent to the Chandler Elementary School. Recreation director Gordon Cushing explained his proposal to the Community Preservation Committee last week.

In an about-face, the Board of Selectmen has named and appointed a town manager search committee, reversing the decision it made last month to rely on a hiring team made up of town officials, human resources staff, and volunteers.

Fuel Assistance Fund Gift certificates available |

This winter could be a difficult time for some of our neighbors to keep their homes heated. Last year nearly 150 families in Duxbury asked for fuel assistance from the Duxbury Interfaith Council and the South Shore Community Action Council. The DIC depends on donations to meet these heating needs.

Deborah Anderson, who served as the Clipper’s acting publisher for the past year has been named publisher on a permanent basis. Deborah will work with Editor-in-Chief David Mittell Jr., himself a Duxbury native and former Patriot Ledger and Providence Journal columnist.
