With rumors circulating around town about structural damage at the Duxbury Public Schools, Superintendent Dr. Ben Tantillo sent a message out to students and parents, addressing rumors and correcting information.
School is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday only and will resume on Thursday, Feb. 14. In the message, Tantillo said "an erroneous message" appeared on Fox News on Monday, suggesting the roof the the middle school cafeteria had collapsed. Tantillo laid out the school situation for parents: "We should have power in our buildings by Tuesday evening. There is concern of frozen and leaking pipes in DHS once the heat has been turned on. DMS had the set of skylights that are along the far back wall blown away with the storm. This area has been replaced and covered. The problem with DMS cafeteris is that the pipes in the front wall were frozen and have broken. We are workign to repair these lines. There are remaining issues with some of the roads not being passable due to down power lines and tree. The DPW, police and fire departments are working hard to rectify these areas." Tantillo will be sending another message to parents on Tuesday evening. Duxbury Student Union is open to all Duxbury families for free, this week from 2 to 5 p.m., even while school is closed. Families can visit the DSU to warm up and charge devices. Check back in for details and updates. |
