Anderson named Publisher

Deb-in-Afghan-tunic

Deborah Anderson, who served as the Clipper’s acting publisher for the past year has been named publisher on a permanent basis. Deborah will work with Editor-in-Chief David Mittell Jr., himself a Duxbury native and former Patriot Ledger and Providence Journal columnist.

Like the Cutler family,  Deborah comes from a newspaper family:

Deb’s father, Ronald Poole, retired from the Brockton Enterprise after working decades as a news photographer,  It was at the Enterprise he met and married Betty Wixon, daughter of Emory Wixon, head of the proof room at the Boston American.  Betty Poole retired from the Patriot Ledger after working for many years as Whitman and Hanson correspondent.   Deborah worked summers and school vacations with her dad in the Enterprise newsroom, where she got her first byline when she was 12.  She later worked for the Whitman News at age 17, as reporter and photographer, and after college returned home to work in advertising sales for Franklin Publishing Co. where she met and married her husband, John Anderson.  At its zenith, Franklin Publishing included The South Shore News and 14 other local weekly newspapers south of Boston.  On her own, Anderson bought and published the Bridgewater Independent and the East Bridgewater Star for two years before selling them to Franklin Publishing.  After her husband’s death, she came to work for the Duxbury Clipper, never far from the smell of newsprint and ink.
