A search committee has named three finalists for the position of Duxbury’s next town counsel, and they include the current interim town counsel, Arthur Kreiger.

Committee chairman Martin Desmery announced the three names at the Monday night selectmen’s meeting.

In addition to Kreiger, they include Barbara Saint Andre of Petrini & Associates PC of Framingham and Lisa Mead of Blatman, Bobrowski & Mead, LLC of Concord, Millis and Newburyport.

Kreiger is part of the firm of Anderson and Kreiger LLP of Cambridge. He was appointed as interim town counsel in May after the town fired 26-year veteran Robert Troy.

Desmery said the committee had received 13 applications and had conducted seven interviews in public meetings before narrowing the search down to three finalists, which, he said, were unanimous choices.

Each of the attorneys interviewed was “a highly qualified professional with the knowledge, skill and experience to serve effectively as Duxbury’s new town counsel,” according to a memo to selectmen from Desmery.

The task to narrow the list from seven to three was difficult, said Desmery.

“The good news is you have a choice between three outstanding lawyers,” said Desmery.

Desmery noted that Kreiger’s firm is more costly than the other two companies, but he said there might be room for negotiation with them and urged the selectmen to ask for a price break. He also said that both Mead’s and St. Andre’s law firms offered their services for a flat fee and he felt the selectmen should ask Anderson and Kreiger for a flat fee option in order to make a level comparison among the three.

The selectmen must now make the final choice. They said they will schedule a public meeting during the day and interview each candidate during that time. Chairman Ted Flynn said the interviews will take place soon.

According to the Web site of Petrini and Associates, Barbara J. Saint Andre is a principal in the law firm, which focuses on municipal law, land use and zoning, housing, and civil litigation. Previously, Saint André was a principal at Kopelman and Paige, P.C., where she practiced for 21 years as town counsel to numerous cities and towns across the state.

Saint André has experience in land use areas such as subdivision control, zoning, public health, wetlands protection, Chapter 40R, enforcement and permitting as well as the comprehensive permit law, Chapter 40B, an area in which she has been representing cities and towns for over 20 years.

Saint André graduated cum laude from Suffolk University Law School in 1981 and received her B.S. in Government summa cum laude from Suffolk University in 1979.

According to Lisa L. Mead’s LinkedIn profile, she has been a partner at Blatman, Bobrowski & Mead, LLC for eight years. The company specializes in general municipal law and land use law and most of its clients are town governments and boards. It presently serves as town counsel in Kingston, Ashland and Bellingham, and is assistant town counsel in Marblehead and Deerfield.

Mead was a former city solicitor for Somerville and also a former three-term mayor of Newburyport and a former two-term city councilor there.

Mead graduated New England School of Law in 1987 and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1984.

Kreiger has represented developers, towns, businesses and citizens groups in zoning, land use, insurance and environmental issues for the past twenty years.

Kreiger graduated with honors
