Duxbury may become a two-traffic signal town as part of a proposed expansion of the development at Island Creek. But will the signals be built in time to satisfy the traffic concerns of the Zoning Board of Appeals?

The Duxbury Fire Department said this week they have learned, form fire officials in another community, that a company called APX Alarm Security out of Provo, Utah has been targeting different communities with strong arm tactics selling alarm systems.  They usually go after the elderly.  The sales reps push hard for the homeowner to sign a contract on the spot, even if there is already an alarm system on premise.

Duxbury has decided to challenge the state’s mandate to reduce its water usage, opting for a voluntary outdoor watering ban this summer instead of a mandatory one.

A funny thing happened to the DHS boys’ tennis team last Friday. They started their semifinal match with archrival Hingham on the courts at Norwell High School, and finished it a couple of hours later at the Weymouth Tennis Club.

The House on a 78-78 tie vote Wednesday night rejected a Republican-sponsored amendment that would have abolished the Suffolk County legal holidays of Evacuation Day (March 17) and Bunker Hill Day (June 17). Under House rules, a majority of votes in the affirmative is required in order for an amendment to pass. A tie goes to the negative side. If any single representative had voted to abolish the holidays instead of for retaining them, the abolition would have been successful on a 79-77 vote.

A Pembroke man, on May 20, pled guilty to raping a Duxbury girl and was sentenced to five years of probation in Brockton Superior Court.

Sen. Robert L. Hedlund praised a new Senate Post Audit & Oversight Committee report that validated the state Inspector General’s findings that developers have been taking advantage of lax oversight of the state’s Chapter 40B law and pocketed excess profits that rightfully belong to local communities.
