Even in the most mundane parts of your daily routine, please know I am jealous, for I am in Africa and far away from the luxury of running water, cable TV, and fresh salty air.

Police warn of car break-ins

Duxbury has had a recent increase in motor vehicle breaking and entering. The Duxbury Police Department would like to remind residents to lock their vehicles, remove items of value, and refrain from leaving items in plain view.  If you garage your vehicle, be sure to close and lock the garage door. Should you witness suspicious activity please call the Duxbury Police at 781-935-5656.

The Duxbury Free Library held a pet contest on the high school lawn last Wednesday. All manner of creatures were on display, from housecats to guinea pigs and even a couple frogs! Clipper Editor Justin Graeber participated in the show as a judge and took these photos.

Sweet will return as boys lacrosse coach

Chris Sweet will return as head coach of the Duxbury boys’ lacrosse team. Superintendent of Schools Susan Skeiber said late Tuesday afternoon that she and Sweet had a “productive” hour and 20-minute meeting to discuss the status of his contract.

A visit with Arthur Bernard

Duxbury resident Arthur Bernard was named chief of staff to Governor Deval Patrick last month. The Clipper sat down with Bernard for a question and answer session in his State House office.

So what does a chief of staff really do?
My responsibility as chief of staff is to make sure that what the governor is trying to achieve by way of policy –– by way of implementing policies –– it’s my job to make sure that’s done. That means interacting with cabinet secretaries and also making sure he has all the information that he needs to make decisions.

Island Creek developer, ZBA wrangle over building heights

Size, apparently, does matter –– at least in the minds of the Zoning Board of Appeals.

After almost a year since hearings began, the board is closer to drafting a special permit for the expansion of the Island Creek development off Tremont Street, a 40B project. However, the board is still wary about the size of the apartment buildings included in the expansion. At four stories, the buildings would be the tallest in Duxbury and two stories higher than any existing structure on the property.
