The Duxbury High School sailing team has had an extremely successful season to date this spring. The varsity team has dominated their league with an undefeated record of six wins and no losses. They had key wins against Cape Cod Academy, St. John’s Prep, BBN, Hotchkiss, Milton, Portsmouth Abbey, Sharon, BC High, Hingham, Winchester and Barnstable.
Additionally, the varsity sailors performed well at their last quad meet, winning two out of the three meets they sailed. The Dragons got wins against Manchester/Essex and Martha's Vineyard. The team had five extremely close races against Tabor but were unable to come away with the vic- tory.
Representing the Dragons for these varsity events were senior captains Hanno Kite-Powell, Alex Palfrey, Alec Stewart, Meg MacKinnon, juniors Sydney Connor, Kevin Coakley and Aaron Klein, and sophomore Maddie Foote.
The JV team is also having a successful season. The squad is undefeated in head to head meets and has been in the top five at all invitational events. The group was only one point
from winning the Tabor Invitational and had a strong performance, sailing in tough conditions at the Sharon Invite. Sailing well for the JV group is Jan Kite-Powell, Chris Colbeth, Sara Caso, Meg Sarles, Calder Stames, Tim McMahon, Sean Healy, Chris Mulone, Spencer Dowling, Noah Brayer.
The Dragons are currently preparing for Team Race New England’s and are looking really strong with Team racing. Duxbury is currently ranked third in New England behind
Tabor and Hotchkiss. If the team finishes in the top two at Team Race New Englands, the Dragons will qualify for the High School Team Race National Championship which will be held on May 24-26 in Florida.
In addition to Team Race New Englands; during the next few weeks the team will be competing in the New England Women's Championship, The Mass Bay League Invitational and States at the end of the season.
